Tobacco Walking Sticks My antique tobacco walking sticks were all split in days long ago by using a mallet and froe. The farmers of this era did not have the means to transport logs long distances to a saw mill , so everything was made by hand. All sticks were made from Hickory , Oak and Ash. Split tobacco sticks are becoming rare because most small farmers have gotten out of the business. All of my split sticks come from my uncles farm in Barren County Kentucky, which was established in 1924, they are all 70 to 80 yrs old and have been in use every season until 2001 when he finally called it quits. Needless to say they are well cured. Once these tobacco sticks are gone it will be the true end of an era. All finished sticks are covered with five coats of polyurethane and include a leather wrist strap. Please add $10.50 per stick shipping . Tobacco drying in barn, look closely and you can see the stalks hanging on the tobacco sticks. |
